The Silver Jubilee session of All India Konkani Parishad will be held at Kala Academy in Panaji, Goa, from February 10 to 12, 2006.
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, All India Konkani Parishad President Basti Vaman Shenoy said the Parishad is an apex institution of Konkani speaking people which came into existence on July 8, 1939. Once in two years sessions will be held.
Giving details about the silver jubilee session, Konkani writer Uday L Bhembre said various committees have been already formed to make the programme a success.
All India Konkani Parishad former president Dr Thanaji Halawankar said discussions on Konkani language, culture and community will be held on February 11 and a seminar on “Culture Konkani state” will also be held on the same day.
He said in the concluding session, the future plans and strategies will be discussed.
A variety of cultural programmes representing various regions, religions, and communities will be presented to exhibit the rich heritage of Konkani culture on February 10 and 11.
An exhibition of books, cassettes, CDs in all scripts, Konkani arts and culture will be exhibited at the venue.
As part of the silver jubilee, a Konkani year will be observed in the states of Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala in association with local Konkani institutions. An awareness programme will be conducted with an aim to unite the Konkani people who are divided geographically and politically, he added.
The Konkani personalities who have made an outstanding contribution to the cause of Konkani will be felicitated at the inaugural and concluding session.
