Power Minister Digambar Kamat has called upon the people to maintain traditional unity and communal harmony to make Goa an ideal State in the country.
Addressing after unfurling the tri colour in front of the District Collectorate building here on Tuesday morning, Kamat underlined the need for collective efforts to root out terrorism from the country. “Terrorism is posing a serious challenge to the country and all should unite to eliminate the menace”, he urged the gathering.
Speaking further, Kamat said that co-operation of all the people would make India achieve the dream of becoming the super power by the year 2020.
Saying that the country has achieved tremendous progress in science and technology in the last six decades, the Power Minister said India today is self-sufficient in most of the commodities.
Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik, Fatorda MLA Damu Naik, Margao Municipal Chairperson, Rajendra Azgaonkar, District Collector J B Singh, District Superintendent of Police, Shekar Prabhudesai, freedom fighters and others participated in the Independence Day celebrations.
