Wellknown poet Melwyn Eugine Rodrigues has been selected for the Konkani Kutam Award-2006 by Konkani Kutam Bahrain for his committed and dedicated service to Konkani language and literature.
An engineer working in Dubai, Mr Rodrigues has authored 6 books, edited poetry books of varoius authors and published columns in prominent Konkani newspapers. Mr Rodrigues has written lyrics for music albums and has participated in various national-level literary workshops and seminars and national poetry recital sessions.
A co-founder of “Mandd Sobhann” and founder of “Zage Kavi”, a movement of contemporary poets, Mr Rodrigues is also a founder member of “Daiji Dubai” Konkani writers association and editor of Konkani section in “Daiji World” website. He was an office-bearer in Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka, Konkani Sahitya Kala Samithi and Konkani Lexicon Project for many years.
His book “Moga Pelho” has won the best book in Konkani award in 1989 from Goa Konkani Bhasha Mandal. He has also won the “Editor’s Choice Award” in 2002 from International Library of Poetry.
The award will be presented at the Sandesha Foundation in Bajjodi on July 28 by Konkani Sahitya Academy President Eric Ozario.
