Totally 88,769 students wrote the test and 47,618 rankings have been given in engineering and 13,769 in medicine, he said.
Rural students have fared better this time. G. Abhay Kumar of Government PU College, Malur in Kolar district, has bagged the first rank in engineering stream while Bharathi P. Bhat of DVS Composite College, Shimoga, has bagged the first rank in medicine.
The 4th rank in Architecture stream has gone to Sridhar R. Shenoy of Ramakrishna Vidya Shala in Mysore, he added.
The Minister said that counselling will be for 4,123 seats in 12 engineering colleges, 383 seats in 4 medical colleges and 51 seats in one dental college in the State. The classes will commence as per schedule.
Unless the Central Government brings in a legislation on admission to professional courses, the State Government cannot execute any plans, he added.
The CET results will be announced at all examination centres today at 3 pm and on website from 1 pm onwards.
