CORPN. DRIVE AGAINST PIGS: 'A GREAT MYSORE TAMASHA'

Mysore-The manner in which the City Corporation is carrying out the drive against the pig menace has come under severe criticism.

MGP activist Dr. Bhamy V. Shenoy and MATF member M. Lakshmana, in a press statement today, dubbed the drive as 'A Great Mysore Tamasha' and said that the pig catchers worked only on June 11 and later gave up.

In the first scene of the tamasha, the Mayor entrusted the work of catching the pigs and releasing them at Rayanakere Grounds to pig-rearers themselves. "When we went there, we saw no pigs though they caught 25 pigs in Gokulam in the morning," Dr. Shenoy and Lakshmana added.

In the second scene, there are no pigs as the drive has been abandoned. The Corporation Health Officer has told MATF and MGP that the drive was abandoned following threats from other pig-rearers.

Dr. Shenoy and Lakshmana wryly remarked that the pigs were moving around the city 'taking care of the garbage.'

They observed that the Mayor was preparing for the third scene, where he would declare that the Corporation would definitely go ahead with the 'shoot-at-sight' orders.

"With the Mayor's tenure coming to an end soon, the Great Mysore Tamasha too will be over without any action," Dr. Shenoy and Lakshmana regretted.

The pig population will increase posing threat to the health of the citizens of Mysore.
