G. Umesh Shenoy retired as General Manager of Canara Bank on Monday after serving for over three and a half decades. For the last two and a half years he headed the operations of the bank in the State.
Mr. Shenoy was also the convener of the State Level Bankers' Committee (SLBC). It was during this period that the credit ratio of the banks in the State increased to almost 60 per cent from 43 per cent. Besides, he also set up district-level committees to monitor education loan.
Special loans to the tune of Rs.1.5 crores were provided at discounted rates to the affected people of the tsunami-hit areas of the State. The agriculture loans also increased by 41 per cent.
