“Konkani cinema has a history of 56 years and the pioneer of Konkani Cinema Al Jerry Braganza, who produced the first Konkani Film Mogacho Anvddo,’ needs to be saluted to venture to producing a Konkani film at that time,” said Pundalik Naik, President of Goa Konknni Akademi.
He was speaking as the Chief Guest for the function organised by Dalgado Konknni Akademi, in collaboration with Kala Akademi, Goa and Directorate of Information & Publicity to commemorate the screening of the first Konkani Film Mogacho Anvddo at the Black Box, Kala Akademy Panjim. Speaking further he stressed on the need of good scripts to have good films besides other aspects of film making.
Pramod Khandeparkar, who was the Chairman of the Draft Committee to prepare a scheme for financing the production of films in regional languages, Konkani and Marathi, appealed to Goan producers and director to make good use of government scheme to produce films of high standard. Menino Peres, Director of Information & Publicity advised the producers to produce such films which can be enjoyed by both major communities in Goa.
Dr. Pandurang Phaldesai, Member Secretary of Kala Akademy in his address explained the role of Kala Akademi in supporting the production as well as exhibition of Konkani Films. Wilmix Mazarello, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi also spoke on the occasion.
Clippings of 6 Konkani films namely Doulot, Ordhem Cheddor, Soodd, Kateantlem Ful, Aleesha and Padri were screened to the audience.
In the discussion that followed, producers, directors and well wishers of Konkani film put forth various suggestions to improve the quality of Konkani films.
