Now, Ghatotkacha wields the mace

Ever since the success of Hanuman, which mopped up a revenue of Rs 7 crore across the country, filmmakers are riding piggyback on the animation boom.

While Hanuman’s director, V G Kamath, is planning a sequel, another noted director, Srinivasa Rao, is on the verge of completing his animation film, Maya Bazar.

The film is based on Bhima’s son, Ghatotkacha, a character in the Mahabharata.

Says Vinod Suryadevra, CEO of Polygon Perplex, which is handling the animation, “The film, being shot in both regular and 3D form, has a budget of Rs 8 crore. We decided on Ghatotkacha after viewing two black-and-white films — in Tamil and Telugu — on the character.”

Ghatotkacha’s ability to take any form and perform magic has been portrayed well in the film. The film also shows how Ghatotkacha uses his spell to get Abhimanyu and Sashirekha married.
