(This was forwarded to me by Mahesh Kalayanpur. Thanks a lot Mahesh. Our online community is definitely growing !!!!)

Master Sanmesh Kalyanpur aged 15 years was presented with the prestigious Sanjay Chopra Award at the National Bravery Awards for the year 2005. Risking his life, Sanmesh had saved his 7 years old sister Sanjana from drowning in an open rain water gutter when Mumbai was flooded due to heavyrains on 29th July 2004. He was amongst the seventeen children selected from all over India for the 2005 National Bravery Awards.

He received the award from the Honourable Prime Minister of India at a function held at the residence of the Prime Minister on 24th January 2006. He was later felicitated by the President of India and Vice President of India. He also had the privilege of participating in the Republic Day parade on 26th January 2006.

He is perhaps the first Saraswat recipient of the National Bravery Award.
