E-School competition ignites innovative thinking

UDUPI: “Can you generate power from rain water pouring from roof top?” This was a question posed by noted scientist Dr N A Madyasta to students demonstrating models of hydro-power generation at ‘BrainQuest’, a two-day district level technology fair and competition organised by E-Skool at Don Bosco Hall here on Friday and Saturday.

Madyasta said development in basic science was a necessity for development of technology. “But we are concerned only about technology and neglect the study of pure science,” he said.

He also called upon parents to provide their wards with enough opportunities for experiments, thereby inspiring them towards creativity.

At the technology fair as many as 84 science models were exhibited by students of different schools.

Hydro-electric power generator by the students of Manipal Junior College, bio-gas generator by Sri Venkatramana English Medium School, Kundapura, parabolic reflector by KMES, Karkala, railway danger detector and auto day light regulator by Sharada Residential School were the highlights.

Aerobatic show by the hobbyists from Karkala and robotic exhibition by E-Skool attracted science lovers.

Sharada Residential School, Udupi, principal Prof Vidyavantha Acharya was the chief guest.

E-Skool director Dr Poornima Kamath said on Saturday competitions in solving mathematic equations, building structures using straws and paper and solving puzzles will be held. Jayaprakash Rao welcomed the gathering. Herald D’Silva of St Mary’s School proposed the vote of thanks.
