Kamat laments lack of values

Manipal : Renowned journalist and Chairman of Prasar Bharati M V Kamat today stressed the need to inculcate human values in young minds.

"We need to go back to our ancient dharma which had been today totally destroyed in the name of secularism", he said.

Delivering the K K Bhandarkar memorial lecture on "human values and society", organised by the Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Manipal, a deemed university here, he asserted that because of the Hindu renaissance and upsurge in the tremendous exploration of knowledge due to the technological advancement, India today was on the verge of becoming super power in the next ten years.

He said that there was also tremendous structural changes going on in Hindu society which need to be encashed on. At the same time, there was also need to create awareness about these developments among the younger generation, he said adding that unfortunately, "we are not aware of it".

Due to large sacle urbanisation, the society was today facing problems. With the urbanisation, the joint family concept had been totally eroded and caring of old had been totally neglected. "All our old values have been today taken over by value for money", he said.

Kamat stressed that there was need for establishment of home for old aged in every society and every village and city. The state government should also take keen initiative in this regard.
