Curtains up on Konkani Yuvamahotsava

“Konkani youth festivals contribute a lot for the growth of Konkani culture,” opined MLA N Yogish Bhat.

Speaking after inaugurating the three-day ‘Konkani yuvamahotsava’ organised by the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy at Kalaangan in Shakthinagar near here on Friday, he said Konkani language and culture has got thousands of years of history.

Stating that more research should be done on Konkani language, he urged the Konkani Sahithya Academy to organise more attractive programmes for the growth of the language. Such programmes will also help the youth to showcase their hidden talents, he added.

Presiding over the programme, Academy President Eric Ozario said that there is a notion that there are more number of people with “grey hair” when it comes to Konkani programmes.

“The sole aim of the Yuvajanotsav is to encourage the young blood,” Ozario said and added that “the yuvamahotsav is only the beginning.”

He also gave details about the three-day programmes which include PUC-level, degree-level and open-to-all contests.

On the occasion, Karnataka Rajyotsava award winner Puttur Narasimha Nayak was felicitated. Konkani Yuva Awaz President Roshan Castelino and Academy Registrar Dr Duggappa Kajekar among others were present on this occasion.

In the day-long contests (PU level) on the first day on Friday, St Aloysius PU College bagged the first place while Canara College (Mangalore) and Mahaveera PU College (Moodbidri) bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

Well known music composer Joel Pereira, mimicry artist Vasanth Bhandekar and singer Irene D’Cunha are the judges for the programmes spread over three days.
