Views from the campus

The fourth FILCA Campus Film Festival screened 35 films that were made by students all over Kerala.

Thirty-five short films articulated the views of students from all over Kerala. They reacted to the world around them through the medium of films.

These films, of which 15 were documentaries, were screened at the fourth FILCA Campus Film Festival at Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram. Most of the films showcased the talent and imagination of its makers.

For the students

The festival was organised by Film Lovers' Cultural Association together with Government Fine Arts College, Thiruvananthapuram.

The festival's competition was held in two categories - short fiction and documentary. Cash prizes of Rs.7, 500 for the best film and Rs.5, 000 for the second best film were awarded in each category.

In the short-film category, the first prize went to `Labuntar' (`The moments slip away'), directed by Prabhu P.M. of Government Victoria College, Palakkad.

The film is a vivid depiction of campus life that is expressed through the memories of a student during the last days of his college life. Besides telling the story of how the college lost in the zonal competitions, the film also focusses on the attitudes of parents who are obsessed with bookish learning, leaving the children with no time for cultural activities.

"This is my first venture and is based on my own experiences. It was very difficult to get the students to participate in the competitions. For one reason or the other, they would back out in the last minute. And we lost by two points. Finance was also a major problem. It is a success of teamwork," says Prabhu.
