The machine was handed over to MMC Chief Officer Elvis Gomes and Chairperson Nitin Chopdekar in the presence of councillor Manish Arolker and other MMC staff.
The fogging machine will be of good use as the port town has seen a spurt in vector-borne diseases.
“My family has been staying in Vasco for the past 60 years and we have seen many cases of vector-borne diseases. In fact, I came across at least 20 cases of chikungunya in one building itself and due to this, I felt the need to donate this machine to the MMC,” said Shanbag.
He added that technicians would be invited to train the MMC staff on the use of the fogging machine. “The MMC has done a great job by conducting camps to keep Vasco clean and green, besides being a garbage free area,” said Shanbag.
MMC Chairman Nitin Chopdekar said the council has three fogging machines of a smaller capacity. “The new fogging machine will go a long way in minimising the vector-borne diseases in the port town,” he said.
He also hoped that Shanbag’s kind gesture towards the MMC would be emulated by others in the business community.
MMC Chief Officer Elvis Gomes stated that utilisation of the new fogging machine is one way to control the mosquito menace and the spread of vector-borne diseases.
