Canara Bank to adopt 400 villages

The Canara Bank has adopted 400 villages in Karnataka under the financial inclusion scheme, a top official of the bank said.

Out of the bank’s 2,500 branches all over the country,1,400 branches are in rural and semi-urban areas and “each of these has been directed to adopt one village under the financial inclusion scheme”, chairman and managing director of the bank MBN Rao told reporters at its KPJ Prabhu Artisans’ Training Institute on the city outskirts.

On the self-help groups (SHGs) , he said out of the 1.2 lakh SHGs under the bank,80,000 are credit-linked and Rs 450 crore has been disbursed to these SHGs.
